Ww 2 Static Water Tanks

the one im interested in was situated at the bottom of broughton lane inbetween no22 and the broughton pub,it was constructed on the site of a cottage that was demolished some years before i think it was no20 can anyone remember it ? i believe they were incase the water mains were damage by bombs.

there was also one on the corner of fell st / alfred road in the 1950s,i wondered there are any maps showing all of them around sheffield

There is still, as far as I know, an underground tank, still filled with water, outside what once was the Marples Hotel.

If you look in the road diagonally out from the corner of the building there is a large steel manhole cover.

When Wigfalls store caught fire years ago they opened it up and put a number of suction hoses into it.

I was there at the time and looked down it and it looked to be very large with a lot of water in it.

I presume the brigade retain it to assist with large city centre fires.

I expect there are others.
