Lyn 1
The Beeches, Barnsley road was in the grounds of the old Fir Vale Workhouse (now the Northern General Hospital). It was used at different times for different things - 1901 as part of the childrens homes on the site, 1911 for the Pharmacist who worked at the Workhouse. It wasn't demolished until 1968 yet I am struggling to find a photo of it. Does anyone have a photograph please? Many thanks Lyn
lysander
Was this the house standing on the right hand side of the road going up hill and used at some stage by the Woodcraft Folk?
Lyn 1
It was set within the hospital grounds so therefore if you were going up the drive inside the hospital grounds it was on the right hand side stood back on its own. I do believe that it was used by some youth group c 1940s/50s. If you were going up Barnsley Rd itself however it was one the left hand side just inside the hospital grounds and I believe was there prior to the Workhouse being built in 1878.
