SteveHB
Hi VicRichardson and welcome to SH. On the former bank on Heeley Bottom/London Road, the words "Yorkshire Penny Bank" are still visible just below the arched windows.

Unitedite Returns
Does anyone else remember the little, metal savings "books" that the Yorkshire Penny Bank used to give to kids? I had one, blue cover and hinged like a book. There was a slot in the top, into which you could push your coins, but which had inward facing teeth that stopped you getting the coins back out. Every so often, you would take it along to the YPB, who possessed the key that opened the "book" so that you could pay the savings contained therein into your bank account. Brilliant concept, because once you had committed the coins, you could never be tempted to take them back out.
Bayleaf
Now you mention it yes I do remember. I had one as well. Can't remember having to take it to the bank very often though!
ukelele lady
If I'm not mistaken I think the YEB used to issue thse as well for you to save for your incoming bill. I remember my mother having a red one, am I right ? does anyone one else remember these metal red moneyboxes made to look like a book?

That definitely rings a bell, perhaps I'm confusing the two, but red is what I remember now you mention it.
Unitedite Returns
That definitely rings a bell, perhaps I'm confusing the two, but red is what I remember now you mention it. We never had any red YEB books in our house, but we did have Yorkshire Bank [blue] and Trustee Savings Bank [creamish] books. Both the YSB and the TSB had branches in the centre of Woodhouse when "I was a lad", which sat together, side by side.
Hopman
Googling "Yorkshire Penny Bank Money Boxes" brings up images of the round steel money boxes which had slots for (pre-decimal) coins. The key to open these boxes was kept at the issuing branch. The name changed to Yorkshire Bank in 1959, though I expect there was still signage showing the old name well after this.
