Ever fancied tracking down

your old school friends or

sharing your favourite photo with

the rest of Sheffi eld? Now is

your chance as The Star’s nostalgia section Retro

will be holding its fi rst ever open day at Bishops’

House and you’re invited. Pop in for a chat with

Retro editor Nancy Fielder and bring along old

photos so they can be printed in Retro. Share

your stories, and take a trip down memory lane.

Tabla Workshop 1-3pm

An opportunity to have hands on

experience and tuition of tabla

drumming, the most popular

percussion instrument in the Indian

sub-continent. The workshops

will be led by John Ball, World Musician in

Residence at the University of Sheffi eld with twenty

years of teaching and performing experience on

tabla. Several tabla drums will be provided for

the workshop. This event is FREE but places are

limited and must be booked in advance. Please

email enquiries@bishopshouse.org.uk. At the end

of the session at 3pm there will be a performance

by John, which will be open to the public

Sunday June 17 1-3pm

Tigers on Hawley Street

The Sheffi eld Jungle stood

on Hawley Street through

the winters of 1910/11 and

1912/13. It was a spectacular

show of wild animals and

bizarre entertainments. The

Sheffi eld Jungle Project

has looked at this event

and traced the context

and changes through

to present day.

Come alomg and listen

to Ian Trowell of

Sheffi eld’s National Fairground Archive

talk about the Jungle, and the new childrens’

story book about it. The book tells the story

of a grandparent recalling the Jungle to his

doubting grandson. It is a story about memory,

believability and story-telling itself. FREE

Butterchurning

Have a go at making butter the traditional way,

with a churn and some elbow grease!

Join staff from Museums Sheffi eld for a

guided tour of the House

at 11.30am before the

activities begin.

Suitable for 5 years +.

Poetry Music & Wine: The Word Train

sessions we are joined by the local writers

Trinity Church join us to play

a selection of music to fill the

house with uplifting sound.

The Gamebirds

We welcome back The Gamebirds. This

popular group sing unaccompanied and also

incorporate some instrumental harmonies.

Gamebirds are: Heather Ashton - violin, Judith

Reading - accordion and hand bells, Carol

Schofi eld and Karen Stock. FREE
