tozzin
Does anyone have a picture or drawing of this pub that was situated on the corner of Eyre St & Furnival St, Ive printed out the list of Landlords but as for the picture I just cant find one even on Picture Sheffield. If anyone has one I will be very grateful if you could e-mail me a copy.

Guest Barbara M
When we lived in Bedfordshire, there were more then one pub called " The Swan with two NICKS " , this was the practice of marking the swans when they were counted, something to do with them being Crown Property or not , I think . That made me wonder if the name of the pub is " The Swan with Two Nicks " instead of " Two Necks " & that is why you can't find any trace of it......just a suggestion !!! You could be right as dialects do change words, I do recall the practice of marking Swans, I believe their beaks were nicked, Ive just looked in SHEFFIELD PUBLIC HOUSES by Michael Liversidge and it confirms what you say. Guest Piglet31
The name was called the Swan with Two Necks (not nicks). My great grandparents (surname Ramsden) ran it during the 1920's, my great grandad died upstairs in the pub from TB in the early 1920's. My grandma and great grandma continued to live there with her mother until her death in 1926 (a suspicious death, but that's a different story...). My grandma (who lived until the age of 94) remembered clearly having her photo taken stood on a chair outside the pub in her Sunday best aged about six but we do not have this photo... Great grandma also organised charabanc trips for her regulars and my grandma remembers a local newspaper coming to photograph the vehicle with its occupants in front of the pub before they set out to the coast. This would have been in the summer of 1925/6. But once again we don't have the photo... but as it was printed in a local news paper it may still exist in some archive somewhere. Good luck in your search, if you do find a photo please let me know.

Looking at it, it seems a high turn over rate of landlords/owners. Is this usual for the time does anyone think?
