I've searched the Sheffield Indexers site which lists many burials and he's not in either City, Burngreave or the others listed on the site. There are plenty of Bacon's, but the only John listed died aged 43 and before that date.

I found him in the 1911 census at Eadon Road Attercliffe.

My best guess would be try the records or go looking at Tinsley Park Cem. :)

Thanks HD and Dave......be quiet ;-)

Sorry togger, but the old jokes are the best. I'll get mi coat.

By the way HD usually indicates our member hilldweller as he usually adds the signature HD to his posts.

History dude, if not given in full is usually just "dude"

You can call me Graham, it's no secret ;-)

Thought it might be Tinsley :)

Allways best to look for the graveyard near where any ancestor last lived if you can't find them.

Tinsley Park Cemetery

Grave CB5gp [“gp”= “general portion” ie non-consecrated section]

GRIFFIN Edmund Hope 7 Sep 1946 52y labourer 97 Burngreave Rd / 2 Herries R Sheffield CB5gp

TAYLOR John 24 Mar 1961 46y labourer 19 Percy St Sheffield CB5gp

John TAYLOR is Lily's second husband. This looks like the marriage:

GRO Marriages DEC Qtr 1947 (from FreeBMD)

Griffin Lily Taylor Sheffield 2d 592

Taylor John Griffin Sheffield 2d 592

I can't see a burial for Lily in this cemetery (there are a couple of Lily TAYLORs, but the ages are wrong)

Lots of practice with a limited (but useful) group of transcribed records.

Anything more than 7.4 miles from Vulcan or earlier than 1 July 1837 and I tend to get a nosebleed.

No, he died when I was about 5 years old i.e. 1956 or 7. He would have been in his late 50's

Thank you, yes, I am almost sure it's the first one you listed. As far as I know he had no middle name.

Do you have any more information please?

The 1911 Census isn't showing any William Downs living in Sheffield of the age stated.

There is one in Bradford of that age.

This one for Glossop

And this one with another name first name! And wrong age!!

Also found a marriage of William dated Oct-Dec 1953 to Gertrude A Eaton in Sheffield.

If they are the right people you have :

George Edward Froggatt born 1883/4

married Sarah A Pye Born 1891/2

Married December 1910

Children

Elizabeth 1911

Alice 1913

George 1915

Annie 1919

Can't find a Thomas though so maybe not correct?
