Lead poison9ing was well known among file cutters, My great grandmother died of this in 1881. My grandmother died of kidney disease brought on by exposure to lead in 1926. Both were hand file-cutters at home. On the other hand my great aunt Emler born in 1868 died in 1968 a few months short of her 100th birthday. She also was a hand file cutter and nobody has yet explained why she was not affected.

Quite right. One of my ancesters died the same way, lead poisoning which brought on the kidney disease.

He had his own worksop in Cross Smithfield in the late 1800s.
