Bought A Map ...

After 1938 before October 1940 - narrowing down nicely.

What happened in 1939 (apart from "that event") - any dates stones or knowledge of builds or demolitions, fires ...... , shame about the Church at the Peace Gardens (named, as we all know after Charlie Peace ... he he )

I think you may have a cloth copy of Gramps paper version of Bacons,

only one way to check, is by comparing the A-Z street gazetteer's from both maps

The drive to accurately date the map I find most interesting, hopefully others do too.

Any other maps or even snippets of maps/plans,layouts/ line drawings of courtyards/photos; as always, much appreciated.

It's in the post; along with some other stuff.

I'll try to scan and/or send it to a Scanning professional.

Comparing the A-Z's from both maps, top line, bottom line and size of spacing (impossible to check every street name)

of each page, both gazetteers appear to be the same.

Thanks Steve. So, while its in the post what's the best guess at a date ?

I hope I can get a jpg file of the map, one of the guys at work (Baldy Liam, Unitedite from Highton Street) is a GIS-person and has offered to do something, not sure what since I don't even know what GIS is - he explicitely said sections or the whole thing but definately not a pdf - tiff, or gif or jpg - if possible.

1940's Wednesday tin-thing also on its way for a higher-res scan please.

I think you will find that your Bacon's cloth map is the same as the paper one that Gramps donated.
