Guest SheffieldArchives
Hi Richard The Charter of Incorporation of Sheffield as a Borough (dated 24 Aug 1843) is at Sheffield Archives (reference: CA777/1). We have some digital images of the Charter which I'll arrange to have uploaded to Picture Sheffield (URL to follow). If you want to see the actual document, call in at Archives and we can order it out for you (quote the above reference number). For more information, see Brian Barber, 'Sheffield Borough Council 1843 - 1893' in Clyde Binfield et al (eds.), The History of the City of Sheffield, 1843 - 1993, Politics (1993) - this is a really comprehensive chapter on Sheffield's period as a Borough (1843 - 1893). Best wishes, Cheryl
