This is a very old book, published in 1898 which describes Sheffield Great flood which occurred between 11-12 March 1864. The book is a 'true and accurate narrative' of the events and covers the following:

  • Numerous facts, incidents and statistics never before published
  • the official list of the dead and missing, including names, ages, residences, where and when found and where interred
  • details of buildings and houses damaged
  • Mr Rawlinson's report to the Government on the causes of the flood
  • Full report of the inquest
  • Illustrations

The book also contains 20 pages of adverts which provide a unique sociological look of Sheffield in 1898. For example you could buy trousers for 13shillings and a suit for 50 shillings at T.Patterson's, Surrey St, Sheffield, numerous bargains at Henry Wood's on The Wicker and view the new spring collection at John Atkinson Drapers shop on the Moor.</p>

It is a hardback book and the cover is protected with a plastic cover. It is a former library book. The cover is a little loose but the pages themselves are intact and none are missing.
