madannie77
As a Walsh's sign can be seen in the background it must be during construction. By the time it was filled in that shop was House of Fraser.
Sheffield History
Lovely colour photograph of inside The Hole In The Road in Sheffield. Wonder how much it costs to maintain the flower displays in Sheffield City Centre back then?

Sheffield History
Graffiti and people sitting down and relaxing in The Hole In The Road. It really did get quite grim towards the end.

madannie77
Surely that photo dates from the construction of the Hole In The Road, not when it was filled in. The cars and buses clearly date from the 1960s, one big giveaway being the buses are in Sheffield Transport blue and white which was superseded in the 1970s by SYPTE "coffee and cream", and by the time the Hole was filled in all manner of colours abounded on the buses. Additionally, Cockaynes certainly wasn't around when the Hole met its end.

Looks like the construction of it as you can see the markings of the old roads/buildings ...... and where have you seen that lamppost, curved kerbstones and double concrete manhole cover recently? Change Alley thread anyone??? 😉
