Does anyone remember Bowlers potted beef factory? I remember this as being a row of cottages on Bradway road just up from what was the golf driving range.

These are the cottages you refer to.

It was still the Potted Beef Factory when I moved up to Bradway in the early 1980's but not sure when it closed.

Tony Smith refers to these cootage.factory in his book "Historical Notes about Bradway"

The oldest part of these cottages date back to 1760, an extension built in the 1800's

Local folklore says the more " modern" extension was originally a laundry for nearby Beauchief Hall, however it is more likely to have been a dairy.

About 1938 Mr Bowler who farmed locally, took over this building to make Potted Meat, and continued until of the 1980's it was briefly run by another company then closed.

The factory block was completely rebuil between August 1989 and the mid 1990's
