johnm Posted November 6, 2011 Share Posted November 6, 2011 My wifes 2 x gt granduncle Joseph Evans born 1824 In Wednesbury, Staffs but moved to Sheffield in 1840's founded Joseph Evans & Sons of Highfield Tool & Steel Works at Heeley. I believe it was founded in 1852, was incorprated as limited company in 1897 & by 1914 had 300 workers & most of the extensive family members worked for it. in 1911 Joseph's son John Edward was a Director & his son Joseph was Company Secretary. All I know about teh company is the above which was in 1914 Graces Guide. I see ebay has just sold a vintage Joseph Evans & Co spanner which we wished we had seen while it was up for sale! What I know as Highfields is around the junction of Abbydale Rd & London Rd area I wonder if they started at Highfields somewhere and then moved to better premises at a later date.
