Think it would be her father, I am guessing she would only be about 17 years old in 1926

you would like to see the xmas cards?

Can I ask where you found the info and is there any more info on manor farm

thanks much appreciated

Best wait on a few others "waking up from the grave" regarding other data.

Love to see the cards, if possible, please.

Owlergreave Road is the road coming up from the railway bridge, part of which turned into Prince of Wales Road. Farms sometimes have a habbit of changing names, so it's a tricky one to say where it is, but an O.S. Map of the area up from the railway bridge, before Prince of Wales Road was constructed in 1921, should show it up.

Looking at that last, 1954 map, it must have been cleared soon after this, to make way for the playing fields for the Acres Hill -Littledale School.

It is still a green space today, and a bowling green was built there, later on - now dis-used.

I don't ever remember seeing a farm there when I was young, so it must have disappeared around 1954....when I was 6.

I was always up and down Prince of Wales Road back then, because my Grandma lived at the bottom of it, just under the railway bridge.

I do remember the farm, and the corn fields that stood where the Parkway Market is today, and there was a stream running through that area too.

We used to race boats on it.

You could walk over the fields from our house on Manor Park, down past that stream and the back of Acres Hill school, and it brought you out where the Dog Track used to stand, at the top of Poole Road, by the back of Cravens.

You then cut through a gas lit tunnel under Darnall station, turned right, and followed the path down to the railway bridge at the bottom of Prince.

There was a wooden, style-type gate to let you out.

Have just compared that 1954 map with the current Google Earth image of the area and the Bowling green and buildings are smack bang on top of where the farm was.

"Samuel North" was the bit that got this rolling, however, http://www.forum.familyhistory.uk.com/showthread.php?p=105293 the find is stated to be from "Sheffield Forum" when we are, of course, SheffieldHistory.co.uk and the information was stated to have come from www.Sheffieldrecordsonline.org.uk

Just a thought.

We're most happy to have helped solve a bit of a Sheffield mystery - it's kind of what we are quite good at. Let your friends and family know we exist, we need more things to work on like this ...

No rush with the cards, just nice to see what started the search off.

Hi Richard as promised the cards that set this venture off

The little card saying Happy days is a calender of 1926

insert exactly the same as the one for 1927 but with 1926 on it

Thank you for taking the time to post them here.

Did many people personalise their cards back then, I wonder, instead of buying a "multi-pack" ?

ps sorry for poor quality but at least you can see them :)

These cards are really small about 4"x 3", to me they don't look like a card

from someone who was poor, the one with EN on the front was obviously made

for her or my her, the other with the little calendar inside even has postage rates

for 1926

I wonder if they even had multi pack cards, I think these meant alot more

than when we send out cards today

glad you liked them
