[i dined] at the elegant country-seat of Mr William Shore [Tapton Hill], a man whose grandfather was a common hammerman, and who now enjoys a fortune of some thousands a year. I was a good deal struck with the elegance and luxury of his table ... Adieu to Sheffield. It is a dirty, monotonous town, but surrounded with one of the finest countries in England: romantic dales, sweetly rising hills, plantations, enclosures, and neat gentlemen's seats of every side.
