vox
Here's a start for you. You could have a look further on the maps section According to this map from the turn of the century, there were some buildings on one side of Vernon Terrace at the time. Bacons large scale pre 1900
RichardB
Of the 1893 residents of Vernon Terrace, a number appear to be Gardeners or in service in some way. Few interesting names to ponder on : Francis Evans, 16 Vernon Terrace, Gardener to H Steel Esq Samuel Foster, 19 Vernon Terrace, Gardener to Mrs Mark Firth John Thomas Hibbitt, 30 Vernon Terrace, Gardener to Sir Henry Stephenson Hugh Bawn, 4 Vernon Terrace, Manchester Road, Gardener to J B Jackson, Esq Henry Dawson, 46 Vernon Terrace, Manchester Road, Coachman to George Howson, Esq, Ranmoor Jacob Turner, 6 Vernon Terrace, Manchester Road, Coachman to Herbert Hutton, Esq Charles E Abbot, Moordale, Vernon Terrace, Manchester Road, Gardener to Major Dransfield [Might be worth looking into "Spooner and Harrison", builders 1919-25 and Herbert S Knowles, builder (T W Knowles & Son), 1925 to see if they go back any further] I am trying to find out when the houses on tapton hill/vernnon terrace were built and by who if possable, not sure where to start looking hope someone on this site can help manny thanks Mick
