I'm researching Bela Lugosi's 1951 British tour of Dracula. During the week of August 6 - 11 he appeared at the Lyceum.

While in Sheffield he opened the wet pea cannery at Batchelors.

I'd love to hear from anyone who either witnessed the event or knows about it, saw Dracula at the Lyceum or worked at the Victoria Hotel where he stayed during his visit.

Possibly the most bizarre story on here!

There is someone on Sheffield Forum who claims to have a photo - I assume the Star must have covered it?

Sorry I see you have posted on there already. I recall seeing Bauhaus at the Lyceum in October 1982 but alas they did not play BLD which would have been a nice piece of symmetry

It certainly is a bizarre story. I've tried to find a copy of the photo or coverage of the event in the local press without success. I'm currently in Tokyo, which complicates things a little.

I think this image is from my Lugosi blog. At the moment it's the only part of the programme I have, but I've asked the Lyceum if they have a complete copy.

Would be interesting; there is a link to the original - click on Lyceum in my original reply - nice work.
