Thats a brilliant photo, I love aerial shots, but ... major admission time, I'd never even heard of an area called Woodside ! Had to look it up in my A-Z, still I've learnt something there . Thank You.

You'll be telling me next there's a place called Arbourthorne ........

I once woke up in Pitsmoor after a good night out, Lenny Lunch and the Sandwich Wrappers at the Limit, I believe. I awoke, alone in a double bed, opened the windows and didn't know what planet I was on, never mind here I was. I'd never viewed Sheffield from Pitsmoor before, thought I was in Leeds for a while ..... he he

What was the name of the pub which seemed to specialise in selling cider? Maybe the Tollgate? anyway

I was invited by a pal to attend a discount cider night many many years ago, cider was something like 20p a pint for Westons Old Rosie at 8.5%.

Not being a cider drinker I recall leaving after the last bus to town was well gone... my mate almost got run over crossing the road... I walked from Barnsley Road to lower Manor after the last bus, to this day I don't recall which way I walked. Amazed I ever got home, sure it was a Wednesday or Thursday night so I was at work the next day

Never again, and I haven't

Phew!

Youth hey

That is a terrific pic, I've never seen was as clear although I have got several aerial pics. Have you got any more or can you tell us where you got that one from. I moved from my house on Helen Terrace just after the Sheffield Gale, to one of the "Dutch" houses which are not yet finished so I would say the date is early 60's

...just after the Sheffield Gale...

When was The Sheffield Gale? First I've heard of it.

I was born during the freezing cold long winter of 1962/3.

The Sheffield Gale was in Feb 1962. Thousands of houses were damaged and 3 people killed, the wids were said to have reached over 90mph

Just before the Sheffield gale. My house on Helen Terrace is still intact. The house we moved to after the gale, which destroyed the roof of Helen Terrace, was  Pye Bank Close, which is not finished. The gale was February 1962.

I remember the Sheffield Gale very clearly. Our house was on Bower Rd, Walkley, and I was awakened in the night by the house shaking as the gusts hit it. The next day I caught the No12 Circular bus to school from Crookesmoor Rd to Nether Edge, and the roads were littered with broken slates and the occasional brick. Many houses had lost chimney stacks and every so often you'd see whole roofs slateless.
