He told me the spike was a Marlin Spike used by mariners for splicing ropes. I guess the other armed forces would need to splice ropes as well. HD You have just brought to light the error in my post HD, I did notice shortly after posting the Topic that there was something missing from my knife. It does not have this on it! SH link .. sheffieldhistory.co.uk/forums Christopher Johnsons Western Works was situated on Portobello just opposite St Georges Church, I worked in the works in the early sixties when the works were owned by John Donnelly we made all round tang cutlery but the bulk of the production was Carver Forks. at this present time Student flats now occupy the site.
