Sheffield History
LEGENDS BAR and PUB - HIGH STREET SHEFFIELD LOCATION Legends Pub, High Street - Beneath Ground Level pictured above - red mark shows where entrance used to be formerly the geisha bar and crazy daisy Owners - Tetley Manager - Pete (went on to Players cafe) Assistant Manager - Tony Head Doorman - Pablo Chef - Louise & Nathan Bar Staff - Louise, Justin, Nathan Justice DJ - Neil James The most famous thing about this underground bar/venue is that it's the place where Phil Oakey of the Human League met Susanne Sulley and 18 year old Joane Catherall and recruited them to join the band when the bar was 'The Crazy Daisy' During the day Legends served food although towards the end of it's life it wasn't very busy. At night it was a thriving bar that was on the typical townie route that started at the Marples, then the Old Blue Bell then up to the Stonehouse etc. The bar closed as the supertram was being installed on High Street, having suffered from the West Street development meaning that people didn't stop off in the bar as much as they did - instead choosing to move up town to West Street, Division Street etc PICTURES pictured above - the entrance - where 'blacks' shop is now LAYOUT The entrance was on High Street and you walked through that and down a staircase that curved round to the left to doors at the bottom that led you into the main bar. As you walked through the door at the bottom of the stairs, on your left were three or four steps down to a lower area with a bar. Directly in front of you was a raised area with seating, and to the right was a long area with the bar on your left hand side that led down towards the end of the long room and on the left wall was a huge video screen (this is in Legend's day). At the end of the bar was where the food was served in the daytime. At the end of the long room were tables and chairs that were in a darker area of the bar. MEMORIES I remember that 'archie' out of Emmerdale (actor Tony Pitts) was a regular and in most nights ! The video screens on the wall opposite the main bar was also a video jukebox. When nothing was selected the jukebox used to play Bob Dylan albums over and over again which is fine for the first few hours but if you were in there on an all day session it was murder ! Also remember some of the staff. Tony the assistant manager was a top bloke and looked exactly like Mike out of the TV Series 'The Young Ones' and we often used to tease him about it !! RichardB
Great to see, I'm personally about 100 years adrift of this place, in interest, if not in years (I'm just a spring chicken really, just boring - so the wife says) lol

Sheffield History
Here you can see the Legends sign and entrance on High Street (left hand side of the bus photo) showing where it was, in between GT News and Cooplands Bakery
ktlaylay
In 2001, with Blacks in situ (and Bradford and Bingley next door): Of course it's a Sainsbury's now. I didn't know it was a bar for a while and it doesn't look like it was ever a bar now, obviously Sainsbury's must have quite a nice underground space to work with underneath. Sheffield History
I do wonder if the old bar is still in place underground or it it was all removed/filled in
