While looking for the answer I found the following, that may be of intrest FARES In the front An example is given of how fares are the same despite different route taken , fortunatley for us, the example given is: Single Return St Pancras to Sheffield – 159 miles 34 /- 11 1st 69/- 10d 1st Kings Cross – Sheffield – 162 miles 23/- 3 3rd 46/- 6d 3rd Marylebone to sheffield - 164 miles 1/- is equivulant to 5p DISTANCES BETWEEN STATIONS A section gives details of disatances between stations where there is more than one Sheffield Midland & Victoria - about ¾ mile Chestefield Midland & Cenral – about a mile Rotherham central and Masboro – about ½ mile Chapel En Le Frith south and central - over a mile The non london stations are noted as Provincial Towns ( I have a copy of the 1948 loco shed directory which when I find ill look through that) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
