Hi everyone,

I'm researching the Sheffield Aviation Week organised by the Sheffield Independent newspaper which took place from March 28th to April 4th 1914, where my grandfather Harold Blackburn flew a Blackburn Monoplane. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has any information or images from this event they could share. And if there is any kind person out there who knows where the relevant issues of the Sheffield Independent can be found and could obtain copies I would be extremely grateful and happy to cover pre-agreed expenses.

Many thanks!

I fonud that 'Independent' piece yesterday, i was searching for casualty lists from the Great War, and i only got through July 1915, so sometime in July 1915 for the piece.

Richard and Dean --

Many thanks for these responses. Some of these sources I was already aware of (and have even contributed to) but the 1915 piece is very informative indeed and has the kind of detail and 'colour' that I'm hoping to find in the Independent's own coverage of the Sheffield Aviation Week. I can see I shall be making a visit to the Sheffield Archives!

Regards,

Mike

Mine were "journeyman" replies from internet searches only.

I'd never heard of the man, and now I have.

Dean, however, has a more specialist view of SheffieldHistory and much appreciated it is.

Hope you keep us updated with new finds/information.
