Old rider
One to add to your list of Sheffield Pro Photographers is my 2nd Great Grandfather James Thomas who was born in Bristol in 1819. He was an "Optical Brass Turner" in 1841 but by 1851 he was a bookseller and optician at 29 Pinstone Street. By the 1861 Census he was an "Optical brass turner and Photographic Artist" at 29 Pinstone St. He appears Drakes Directory in 1863 and White's of 1864 as Photographic Artist having a studio on Chapel Walk and still having the shop on Pinstone St. In the 1871 census he is only recorded as Photographic Artist of Sheringham Road. After that he seems to have given up photography because in 1881 census he is a "Surgical Instrument Brass turner
