Joseph Rodgers And Sons Knife

I recently acquired my grandfathers hunting knife and sheath, inscribed with the following: Joseph Rodgers and Sons, Cutlers to Their Majesties, No. 6 Norfolk Street, Sheffield, England. Engraved on the right side is a "*" and a "+". He was born in Ogle County, Illinois, USA in 1866. He spent most of his time in the American West when it was still pretty wild and passed away in 1945. I was born in 1952 so I only know him through stories and pictures. I would like to add the story of this knife to my memories of him. Any information you provide is very much appreciated.
