does anyone remember if table bowls was ever played in the sheffield area

or here

Hi metalmickuk,

first time I have ever seen or heard of the game 'table bowls'

looks a bit of a new fad pub game to me.

I regularly played snooker in the pubs, working men's clubs,

and also the snooker halls that were going in the 70's – 80's.

Table time, (usually governed by a coin in slot electric meter) was precious,

with players often waiting their turn to get onto the table/s.

Playing for a pint or two in the pubs & clubs was common place,

while quite large sums of money sometimes change hands in the snooker halls.

I would think that the named game of ' table bowls' if played in Sheffield,

would have been confined to a local pub, and would be a game played between known friends and regulars.

Most dedicated snooker players tend to stick to games that require the use of a cue,

Hi metalmickuk,

the first time I saw Table bowls played was in a pub in the Lake District,

that was around forty years ago.

Shortly after (early 70's) I saw the game played,

on more than one occasion in Hartley House WMC on Bellhouse Rd, Shiregreen,

one regular participant in the game was also a very keen billiards player.

It looks like the game has never been popular in this area. have noticed lots of snooker table sets for sale on ebay and the carpet version.
