Guest J R Wrigley
How about Samuel Plimsoll (1824-1898) Although born in Bristol the family moved to Sheffield in 1838 and Samuel was from then on educated in Sheffield. He is remembered as the pioneer of the "PLIMSOLL LINE" - a line pained on ships to indicate whether they were overloaded and an idea that saved many lives. Guest tsavo
I met Maurice Colbourne when conserving a silent 16mm film of Broomhall Nursery shot in the 1920 / 30s. It was shot by Mr Tozer of Steel, Peach & Tozer. Maurice had a child who attended the nursery and volunteered to record the voice-over for me. He turned up for the recording with a bottle of champagne and two glasses. While chatting, he told me his ambition was to make a film about the Sheffield Gang Wars and asked me to scout for suitable shooting locations while he was on holiday. Sadly he died soon after this, and the film still hasn't been made. A genuinely nice guy.

Guest leplovrpetefan
Why isn't Pete willis on the list? He was also in Def Leppard and still lives in Sheffield. All the other band members are listed. He is not a current member but he was the founding member with Rick Savage and wrote and played on their first three albums. C'mon--give Pete his props! RichardB
I've thrown many a wet runner bean at Martin Fry's backside, anyone guess why ? (1980, Summer, Non-***, he couldn't respond !) Work this one out ! We both worked at Batchelors drying runner beans in Summer 1980, Martin worked in the top area where the beans were covered by metal caging, he couldn't get hold of the beans. Me and a mate worked the drying beds, where the beans were spread out and dried by warm air (The Butterley Beds). Hence, anytime Martin had to move about we'd pelt him with wet runner beans A year later, he's a Pop Star, didn't release "Manacled Stick Insect" I notice ... we wrote that, or created it - like Frankenstein !
