Does anyone know where this was?

Definitely Herries Rd - NGH on the left - where the bollards are is Norwood Rd junction on the right. I re,eber teh prefabs being on the RH side too and they were replaced by flats late ?1970s. Remember the bus stop like that but don't have any idea as to why it seems to have a balcony thing on top.
  3. I have been given a photograpic reproduction of a postcard of Shiregreen Road no 1172 on the back of it. I have looked at an old map of the area 1850ish and it does look as if it could be Shiregreen Lane towards the end where it leads to Wincobank Hall. Has anyone else seen a similar photo at all?

  8. If you have never visited this before then put it on your 'to do' list. They do a lovely soup, cakes and teas etc at a very reasonable price. Open on Mondays but do check their website first. All run by volunteers http://www.grenosidereadingroom.co.uk/news/ The new exhibition on display in the Reading Room is “How we once lived.” Many thanks once again to the Grenoside and District Local History Group for their work in providing such a wonderful exhibition.

Wicker Post Card and Mistery Item.

I fully agree with the last theory. I remeber at Firth Park Terminus in the 1950s a pole being used to change the tram to another line. Some trams stopped at FIrth Park others went to Lane Top.

    Burtons Buildings Sheffield

I think along with C & A Modes it was damaged in the blitz and wasn't properly rebuilt until the mid 50s. http://picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;t03147&pos=2&action=zoom&id=33500

Thanks Edmund - I do every so often ring my landline which has an answering machine so I do take about 2 yrs to use up my PAYG £10. Last of the big spenders that's me!

Can you do this?? Mobile phone users a challenge!!

Have a landline why would I need a mobile if I have managed most of my loooooooong life without one? Oh yes I do have a basic mobile - it lives in my bag untouched except for if ever there is an emergency. If my family ever get a call from me on it then they will know it is a dire emergency.

One of mine was transported after his charge of murder was changed to manslaughter. Lots of various ones in the section titled Murder!!! on this site.
  16. How daring were we when we went to a dance at the City Hall at midnight- I think it was Easter and no dancing was allowed being Easter Sunday so they did what they termed an all nighter, midnight - 4am - @ 1962 I think it was. Back in the days of last pints at 10.30 in pubs? Needless to say by 2am we'd had enough. We were not used to such late nights.

How are you coping with the Sun?

Fill a hot water bottle with cold water and keep it in the fridge to take to bed with you at night. Also a plant spray filled with icy cold water - spray the room & bed before you go to bed.
  20. c 1902 - some records I was looking at mentioned Page Hall Mission school. Any ideas of where it was and when it finished? Thanks

    Page Hall Mission school

It was mentioned in the minutes of tthe Guardians of the Sheffield Union. Thye were no longer going to send children to the school there. I've attempted to look on maps for it with no joy but have a vague idea of something else on this forum some time ago about something similar with the entrance possibly being on Rushby St. The building is no longer there but has been replaced with a modern building that I believe sells Asian clothes. Where did you get your info from Edmund?
