  2. Thanks for that, I erased my last post by mistake, Can you remember the hysteria? What was it like in Sheffield? Were the women petrified? I was born in 1973 so can only remember small detail. The General
  3. I can only slightly remember the hysteria caused by Sutcliffe, Very scary times even in Sheffield Sergeant Robert Ring and PC Robert Hydes caught Sutcliffe when he came to Sheffield, he was with a "girl" on Melbourne Lane, where is that? 'Sheffield will not be missed. Next on the list'. Sutcliffe's poem sent to the Sheffield Star newspaper gives some insight into his state of mind.' Source Yorkshireripper.com The General

  12. Yeah, Me and the missus spend a lot of time up there and especially in "The Yorkshire Bridge" pub just next to the dam, The story has it that the church could be viewed at certain times of year when the water level was low (Summer etc) and in the winter time it would be under the water level and not visible. There was plenty of safety issues with people swimming out to the church in high summer so the decision was made to dynamite the spire. This was done around 1950 i believe. Incidentally, the bodies from the graveyard where exhumed and re-buried in Bamford The General
