  1. Spot on! According to Google Street View, the building on the left is still there (look at the tall chimney and the 3 chimney pots)

WIMPY BURGER in Sheffield city centre

The one on Fargate changed from being just a restaurant to a fast food takeaway similar to McDonalds / Burger King (which it later became) I remember being served a Wimpey Half Pounder by Elliot Kennedy before his music producing days
  3. It was grey and blue when it was "Sheffield Supertram". The white with coloured bands are the Stagecoach colours. Also, they didn't carry advertising when they were Grey.

Fine Fare and Fred Hartley at Manor Top

What a great photo! I used to go to Fred Hartley's at Manor Top to buy "pop-ex" 45r.p.m. ex juke box singles.

    Greasy Vera's Cafe in Sheffield

I remember Vera's when it was on Mowbray Street. When it was owned and run by Vera. One night in the 80's at daft o'clock, after being in a nightclub, Me and some mates were stood waiting for a sandwich when out of the corner of my eye I spied the figure of a very tall skinhead, dressed in the full outfit of drainpipe jeans, Ben Sherman collarless shirt, oxblood Doc Martens and braces, striding towards us. I insantly thought "here comes trouble". He strode up to the serving hatch and in the politest voice ever asked "Could I have a hot dog please?" Years later, the van moved up to it's final resting place on Swinton St. The owner was now a guy called John and he told me that to move it, they just put some more air in the tyres, attached a battery, and drove it up there! I'm sure this will also spark a discission about the famous "Cheggburger" or MM as it was known, so I may be back, later in the thread

    Anyone remember Sarsaparilla ?

I have a vague recollection of this shop, but I was only a toddler in the early 60's. I seem to remember stopping off with my mum and the drink coming out of a tap, not a bottle.

    Old Photos of Gleadless

Thanks for bringing this website to our attention. Born and bred in Herdings just after the estate was built, it's nice to see how it looked back then.

    Windows 10

I'm still on XP on my laptop, and hope to be until it falls over on me. My desktop is running Win10 and seems to be stable, so I'm going to leave it alone.
