  5. Greasy Vera's Cafe in Sheffield

I remember Vera's when it was on Mowbray Street. When it was owned and run by Vera. One night in the 80's at daft o'clock, after being in a nightclub, Me and some mates were stood waiting for a sandwich when out of the corner of my eye I spied the figure of a very tall skinhead, dressed in the full outfit of drainpipe jeans, Ben Sherman collarless shirt, oxblood Doc Martens and braces, striding towards us. I insantly thought "here comes trouble". He strode up to the serving hatch and in the politest voice ever asked "Could I have a hot dog please?" Years later, the van moved up to it's final resting place on Swinton St. The owner was now a guy called John and he told me that to move it, they just put some more air in the tyres, attached a battery, and drove it up there! I'm sure this will also spark a discission about the famous "Cheggburger" or MM as it was known, so I may be back, later in the thread
  6. Look how much Sheffield has changed!

    Google Maps view.
  7. Anyone remember Sarsaparilla ?

I have a vague recollection of this shop, but I was only a toddler in the early 60's. I seem to remember stopping off with my mum and the drink coming out of a tap, not a bottle.

  10. Old Photos of Gleadless

Thanks for bringing this website to our attention. Born and bred in Herdings just after the estate was built, it's nice to see how it looked back then.

"Yes" came the reply The man thought about it for a few moments................. "Hang on............Who's pies are they?"
  12. Windows 10

I'm still on XP on my laptop, and hope to be until it falls over on me. My desktop is running Win10 and seems to be stable, so I'm going to leave it alone.
  13. Windows 10

If anyone has upgraded and doesn't like it, you can roll back to your previous version of Windows up to 1 month after you installed Windows 10
  14. Windows 10

I also found that it changed all the file associations to the microsoft version. For example I use vlc player for videos and it changed it to media player, and photos from Faststone viewer to windows picture viewer. Easy enough to swap them back, but still a nuisance to have to do it.
  15. Windows 10

I've installed the upgrade and to be honest I think that graphically it's not as nice as windows 7. It also seems more geared towards phones and tablets. It asks a lot of questions before it fully installs about sending data to microsoft, using your location to tailor searches etc. I switched everything to "NO". Time will tell if I keep it, or revert back to Win 7, but support for Win 7 will end soon.
