  1. I haven't been able to sort out the missing maps from the interactive map above yet, but the nine individual parts of the map can be seen and downloaded at https://www.sheffieldhistory.co.uk/forums/topic/4458-other-mapsplanslayouts/?do=findComment&comment=25234. Scroll down past the street index.

  3. It's Dixon Lane. It looks pretty normal to me, town was always busy like that on a Saturday. There weren't any parking meters yet either . I hated it when I was a kid, you could get trampled going down there to the Rag & Tag.

  4. I used to say that claiming Robin Hood was from Nottingham, was like claiming Churchill was from Berlin. The protagonists had their own separate camps. If it is indeed history rather than legend then maybe none of it even occurred in Nottingham. Wasn't Peveril Castle one of the good Sheriff's outposts ?

  5. I believe it was so modern / hi-tec when first built it was used as the setting for an advert for a new Ford Motor Car.

  6. I went a few times too, I was far more impressed by the Hi-Fi than the hotel itself, it looked very cheap and nasty inside.

  7. Despite being slums at the time, I bet they would look quite nice and interesting buildings by todays standards.

  8. They used to hold regular Hi-Fi exhibitions there once a year in the 70's and 80's. Went a couple of times. It was great seeing and listening to the top end hi-fi that I could not afford!
