When i was 16 i did six months work experience at Castle House (around 1978 or 1979). We used to move round departments and i got placed at the sleigh ride. My job was to set off the sleigh and the taped music. It was just seats and it was only the scenery that moved. The tape used to get stuck and keep repeating the same line over and over. Also the Father Christmas was a right grump and liked the odd tipple of a lunchtime. I remember when the lights went out and the sleigh appeared to move the kids started crying.
It certainly was, and I certainly don't remember it. Then again, I never went drinking in town and left Sheffield at the age of 18.

By complete coincidence I photographed the building earlier this week:
This photo dates from the 1960s or early 1970s rather than the 1980s. All the buses are in Sheffield blue & white livery which was superseded (slowly) from 1974 onwards. All the buses are also either half-cabs or rear-engined with the earliest style of bodywork dating from the late 50s/early 60s. None of the more modern bodywork styles are in view.
It is. Looking along Change Alley towards High Street, before Change Alley was lost in the creation of Arundel Gate.
Thorntons Chocolate Kabin on the corner with Norfolk Street
I went there for a while in the late 60s, it was quite exotic for Sheffield at the time.
There were two separate entrances, one for the casino (no booze) and one for the night club.
The night club had a stage, dance floor, bar and a restaurant. I remember seeing Bitter Suite on stage.
For me it was a step up from the Mojo.

Hi, perhaps a map would help, here is a reduced size section taken from an OS map,
no year to it but probably early 1950's.
