The Royal Hotel 2 Bradfield Road S6
A Whitbread brewary house, The Royal hotel was a large imposing building situated on the corner of bradfield road and penistone road, across from the Owlerton greyhound stadium. It was a thriving pub when the dogs and the speedway were taking place at the stadium and the sheffield wednesday matches also created a large customer base for the Royal.
It was demolished in the 80,s to make way for one of the many road widening developments that took place in sheffield around this time.
It is unknown whether the name The Royal Hotel was derived from some local loyalty to the Royal Family in the early part of this century or it was named, more probably after the Royal Dragoon Guards who was stationed at the Hillsborough Barracks.
