Barrel, Damflask, John Green, 1822. (Pushing back the opening date).

Going off at a tangent (no change there then), I can understand the name Dam Flask applying to a reservoir which in plan resembles a drinking flask, But the hamlet of Dam Flask existed before the dam was built. How come ?

Perhaps some ancient herbert looked around and said " if this place was ever flooded the resultant dam would look like a flask, We'll call it Dam Flask" ?

Sorry !

Ah, I see - It was the Fulton Inn, also called The Prospect House.

As the map shows - number 2, at the very bottom of Fulton Rd, (Can't get any bottomer)

Junction of Fulton Rd, Walkley Street and Daniel Hill St.

Prospect-Fulton link.

Well spotted vox, now there's one I've over looked.

I'd say they are the same, I've just checked the 1862 date in Whites and it does say Mary Tune.

But when there's two names we tend to keep em both, to be sure, to be sure. . . as the Irish man said to the. . . lol

I'd keeep both but put Henry Thomas/Mary Tune for 1862, we know Mary was there in later years. Henry might have only been for a short while, trade directories were prepared a year or so in advance, a census was on the night. Grandma ... eggs ...

For newer members trying to work out what it all means and how we work thingies out, not for the bewildered-incumbents he he

The Queen 67 Gatefield / 1 Whitehouse Lane

I like to see how these addresses develop over the years until they get settled into their lasting address.

This one is a good example from Gatefield to 67 Gatefield to 67 Whitehouse Lane to 1 Whitehouse Lane.

You can see how many of the addresses of the pubs came about after new roads etc.
