Why Not ?'Another of our little pubs with an enigmatic name was to be found on Clun Street in the Burngreave district: it was called the Why Not. This pub was one of those which received a new name in the wave of exultation arising from a stroke of good fortune enjoyed by the landlord indulging in the Sport of Kings. The horse called Why Not won the Grand National steeplechase in 1894 it was ridden by a jockey called Gatland and it was owned by Mr J Widger.'

The oldest piece of Sheffield Silver held in the Cutlers Hall is the Sheffield Race Cup of 1777, 18 3/4 inches high and weighing 106 oz. and made by Richard Morton & Co. It was raced for at Crookesmoor racecourse on 29th May 1777 and was won by Mr. Smith's 5-year old Chestnut called Why Not. By 1779 the cup was in possession of John Winter, ex Master Cutler, who presented it to the Company that year.

So the name of the pub may derive from an earlier horse than the 1894 winner.

and this relating to the Weeping Willow beerhouse from 17th July 1855

Beautifully found, undeniable. Since you found it, you decide whether it goes in as a Pub, or a beerhouse (it does have a name which is as good as many) ...

Thank you.

Believe that a Frederick Deakin b1854 d1902 was landlord of the Tramway Hotel 1891/1901

It was down as 126 London Rd I think

I have not got access to census so I can't put 1891/1901 census pic up

Frederick's uncle, Charles Deakin was landlord or lived at Sportsman Inn, Harvey Clough Rd

The Tramway Hotel was in business in 1877 (a furniture sale was held there).  The premises was next door to a coffee house - the Highfield Cafe, owned by by Francis Simmonds, and by 1891 managed by Sam Middleton..

The Deakins were present in 1881 but no mention of the pub business, and still didn't mention the pub part of their livelihood in 1891, though Charles Deakin was a barman.  Census from 1891 and 1901 below:
