Siddalls farm

Thorntons girl

Recommended Posts

Hi there

I have heard there used to be a farm owned by the Siddal family on Monmouth Street Sheffield, they had a dairy and a few animals, anyone heard of it?

I cannot find any details of it but my elderly neighbour said it did exist.

Any help appreciated

From the 1905, 1911 & 1925 Kelly's directories.

Siddall  Mrs.  Sarah Ann,  cowkeeper  34-36 Monmouth Street.

1879 & 1901 directories: Siddall William,  cow keeper.

Looking at this map of Monmouth Street, with Monmouth Lane running parallel to the north, it's hard to imagine where someone would have kept cows in the area.

But then Picture Sheffield has this which answers my question.

Thanks everyone for your help, it is hard to believe there was a farm there once, another part of Sheffield history lost.

I have never heard of this farm in any Sheffield history books, I wonder why?

Was the family connected with the famous Lizzy Siddall of the pre-Raphaelite lot?

Hi everyone, thanks for all the information, is there anyway I could get a larger copy of the map and is it possible to get a map of the area as it looks now?
