madeinsheffield
Desmond Peter Middleton - born January 1921 at the George IV on Infirmary Road, Sheffield died December 1981 Founder member of the 1st SAS serving under Colonal Paddy Mayne. Very proud of his Sheffield roots. He became a Maths and Science Teacher after the war. Mentioned in the books The SAS in World War II by Gavin Mortimer, SAS with the Maquis June - September 1944 and With the SAS Across The Rhine both by Ian Wellsted. Extract from With the SAS Across the Rhine Troop HQ No.1 Jeep Captain Ian Wellsted Trooper Peter Middleton Trooper Owen Page 17 "Peter Middleton was probably the most experienced soldier of us all. He had received his first wound in a skirmish near the Corinth Canal during the abortive British expedition to help the Greeks in 1941. After further active service, he joined the SAS and I came to know him well when he nursed me through my "Baptism of Fire" in the Morvan" (Ian Wellsted) https://peejay537.wixsite.com/middleton-sas http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/ww2peopleswar/stories/15/a3297215.shtml
