Guest PSM
Richard Manks was a well-known sporting personality in Sheffield, where he thrilled crowds of up to 20,000 a day in 1850 when he achieved his great 1,000-mile feat in 1,000 consecutive hours at the Barrack Tavern Grounds. He was also a big attraction at race meetings at the then Hyde Park Cricket Ground and tracks in London, Birmingham, Leicester and Manchester, amongst others. Details of the free book, which also features other great ‘peds’ of the time performing in the Steel City in the Victorian era, can be found by visiting: www.kingofthepeds.com PSM
