Sheffield History
Terrific ariel shot of Sheffield Wednesday's Hillsborough ground showing how much it's changed since and before many of the buildings around it had sprung up SWFC has since changed it's ground significantly as you'd imagine, but look at the land around it! Voldy
Match in progress but a thin crowd, though trams waiting in Parkside Road, so maybe a 'Reserves' game. After 1945 when Semi-finals were resumed at Hillsborough I remember queuing for tickets (2 each) when they would stretch the full length of Vere Road. Some touts would get their tickets and offer them to those at the back of the queue at a premium of course, then queue again! Any vacant land in those post-war years became temporary car parks on match days when petrol came off rationing; e.g. Herries Road fields. When I first started watching the old wooden North Stand was closed to spectators ( on safety grounds we were told) though it did get re-used after the War. Was this shot early thirties? Pc Infield
It could be a midweek game, they attracted small crowds because they had to be played in the afternoon,no floodlights then.
