Newfield Hall

Because of road improvements at the junction of Blackstock Road and Gleadless Road part of the remains of Newfield Hall have been revealed. I did manage to get a couple of photos but not of much consequence. The fireback is stamped Viking Patent, the cellar steps show how badly wore they were, so worn in fact they were lifted and put back upside down to give them new steps, the grate was seated as a drain away in the cellar floor.

I've noticed that as I've been passing on the bus. Amazing how few people know that there even was a Newfield Hall.

This is very strange, a friend of mine told me the exact same story a few months ago, as he heard the piano when he was a lad playing round the hall.

All visible traces of the hall that were uncovered have now gone and a new road is being laid on its footprint.
