Guest Michael Sam
When Linda and I kept the pub in the early 2000s I did some research. The area was Red Place Square and Red Hill.and would be exposed by erosion and lack of sutrfacing in the olden days The bedrock is bright red sandstone as on the old Presbytary across the road.but I could find no evidence that the pub had ever been red coloured , it was brick under the rendering. Built in 1830 as the town expanded 'Irish Embassy' for many years and a great musictradition still going on.! I think it was Red House because of the area.
