'The Prince of Wales was built around 1808 reputedly with stones from the old Ecclesall Chapel. It was said to have ' ample accomodation' for people wishing to break their journey. It was rebuilt in 1928 in mock tudor style. In the 1980 it was revamped into an American style diner renamed the Woodstock. In the early 1990s it suffered for a time under the tiltle of the 'Real Macaw' It finally reverted to it's original name in 1998. AT the rear of the POW Hotel there had been team rooms and a bowling green that later became a car park.'
