RichardB
I have a family member (female aged 15) in 1911 whose occupation is given as 'pearl warehouse'. Does anyone of know of such a place in Sheffield? Please PM me further details if you can, Surname, address/Street. Found nothing under Pearl Warehouse in usual sources. 1911 is pushing it a bit for me, I'm only any use to anyone up to 1901, but I'll have a look for you. Oh, and Welcome to SH, known for a friendly welcome and a "we'll do our best for you attitude".
RichardB
There will be more "Pearl" inspired details (i.e. older than are directly of interest when looking for a 15 year old relative in about 1911) but here are details of Charles Garratt, Pearl Button manufacturer 1911 (White's) Chester Lane, home 149 Fitzwilliam Street 1919 and 1925 Back of 23 Broomspring Lane. Does anyone of know of such a place in Sheffield? [From the website, not me asking "Could this be him" about your female relative - RichardB] Could this be him on the 1881 census. Seems to be the only one named TOM rather than THOMAS born Sheffield. Old rider
My Grandfather who was born in 1864 was originally described as a "Pearl and Ivory Setter". Then in later census's as a "Knife Hafter". Therefore I would imagine that a Pearl Warehouse would supply materials to make cutlery handles.
