The ARROW MARK is the Government mark, everything that was made for the Government has that mark, even today. I used to work in the old Christopher Johnsons Western Works but at the time I worked there it belonged to John Donnelly a Cutlery manufacturer.

The corkscrew in the first picture shows the arrow mark, immediately before the number 1404 and the word Sheffield.

Hello. I'm primarily a corkscrew collector but I recently acquired a penknife marked "Singleton and Priestman Sheffield" on the the two blades. There is a "cigar cutter?" hole through both scales under the larger blade. The corkscrew is on the other side. Any information about the manufacturers would be kindly received. Thank you

William Singleton and Edmund Priestman entered their mark 'S & P' contained within an oblong punch with clipped corners, with the Sheffield Assay Office on the 13th May 1896. Originally at Pond Hill, certainly there in 1900, they moved to 58 Arundel Lane, Sheffield (also offices at 53 New Broad Street, London, EC2). William Singleton also had a company called William Singleton & Co at 10 Bakers Hill, Sheffield. It's logo was "Keen Edge" between two arrow heads, about 1870.
