Amazing video of Sheffield in 1902

No doubt the trams were a nightmare for pedestrians too - as were the droppings of all those horses. But they all appear to co-exist pleasantly enough in the film.

Can anyone recognise the route which the tram takes?

Up for debate:

At 1m27s H.G Williams, Chemist 118 South Street Moor

At 4m04s Great Northern Railway Booking Office 58 Fargate

At 5m21s Sheffield Goldsmith 11 Fargate

Wow! This video / post has made more appearances on SH than any others I can think of......

Deja-vu

Still enjoyable though. Here's the route - see if you can pick out any landmarks.....

  • Starts at the junction of London Road and Queens Road (Lowfield Primary School in centre shot)
  • Down London Road, with the end of Alderson Road visible on right London Road / Alderson Road
  • Up South Street, Moor and on to Pinstone Street
  • Down Fargate and High Street
  • Left just before Commercial Street and down Haymarket
  • Finishes by the old Town Hall (Law Courts)
  • Last shot is out of place, as it's Sheffield Goldsmiths Company, which was not at this location?

Anyway, great viewing and several characters steal the show, not least the moustachio'd conductor of Tram No.9 (A) at 00h:00m:40s
