Bayleaf
I wasn't sure which forum to put this on so here goes; Among the possessions of Capt VS Simpson acquired by the Hallamshires are 2 'badges'. I'm posting this here as they may or may not be his, as there are one or two items in the collection that are WW2. The first is a circular cloth badge with a dragon design. The second is a small metal badge, curved and with a hole at the top and bottom. The design is a trophy, and around the 'cup' there's the following "Rd 1989322" VSS was a keen sportsman who played as an amateur for Sheffield Wednesday, and was a very keen golfer. Any suggestions as to the significance of either or both would be gratefully received!
Ponytail
Please can anybody help in identifying this badge found in my Grandads "box of treasures" Family didn't know what it was. The ruler is in inches. 😅 The lettering in green "Shiregreen" Hallmarked on the back. Hallmark book reveals it is Birmingham (anchor and lion) Letter is C (1927) or it could be a G (1931) Lettering on the left. G.L. Thought it might be cricket or cycling badge but that wasn't his thing. More into motors, music and photography. Of course it might not have been his at all. Edmund
My money would be on Shiregreen Cricket Club (running in 1884). In 1927 they completed the purchase of their own ground, and the team included a couple of Smiths.
Lysanderix
What would be the significance of a wheel and a pair of wings for a cricket club I wonder? As a sometime member of Shiregreen CC (formed in 1869 according to their website)the badge means nothing to me…but as the word Shiregreen is emblazoned on it there must be a local connection. Do I see the letters C C on the badge? If so ,with the wheel and wings ,could the whole be…..Shiregreen Cycling Club? If that’s a possibility all we need to do is see if one ever existed!😙😙

After all these years 🙄 I've discovered a photo with him wearing the badge. That's what modern tech (mobile phone) can do, enlarge a very small photo. He was a member of the Sheffield Motor Cycle Club 1921 but I'd dismissed this as a possibility with "Shiregreen" being on it. He was obviously very proud of it, all dressed up with cap and badge.
