Elisha Snipe and some iffy engraving

Round the back of the Cathedral - Elisha Snipe d.1712

An unusual name - any trace to be found or is it too long ago? Also a couple of late 17th century dates can be seen at the top of the stone. The last three letters of December look like an afterthought though! Also note the old style 'J' shaped figure '1' in 1712.

Elisha was clearly added to the grave at the later date. Though the names of the earlier inscription have worn away, what is left indicates it was a father and than a son burial. Elisha therefore might have been his wife and the child her son.

The added bit to finish of "December" is not uncommon for gravestone inscriptions.

The man seems to have died in 1692 and the son aged 16 in 1707.

Looking at the stone again and neddy's too either he was aged 16, or the transcript or stone is wrong and he was buried on the 16 June, or as the transcript says 25 June.
