Alan Woodward RIP

It was a privilege to have followed the Blades around that time when Woodward was on the right, Gil Reece on the left, Tony Currie and Bill Dearden in the middle. The team seemed to change so little from year to year and the players became our heroes. Listen to Tony Currie paying tribute to Alan Woodward in the link and talking about the camaraderie among the players, on and off the field. Am I just seeing things through rose-tinted glasses or was the football better, the characters larger, the whole experience of going to Bramall Lane or Hillsborough more rewarding? I left Sheffield when United were on a 'high' and that is how I will always remember them, Woody with his flowing hair and rugged features breaking the net from 30 yards out. It's almost like he'll never die.
