Joseph Saunders, first librarian. In 1777 Ester Saunders attended at the house of her mother Widow Saunders (continued for 10 years). Esther married William Caterer (date ?) Esther seems to have been an eccentric "Esther had her favourites for whom she made a practice of concealing the newest and best books of the library in cupboards and drawers, and even in her warming-pan, leaving a discontented section of subscribers perpetually wondering where the new acquisitions had got to".
