duckweed
Depends what history period you like. I am a great fan of Manor Lodge, and also Bishops House. http://www.manorlodge.org.uk http://www.bishopshouse.org.uk/ http://www.facebook.com/TimeWalkProject Time Walk project is putting together a data base of all Sheffield's heritage. Some great photos on it. Also blog http://sheffieldtimewalk.wordpress.com/
Bayleaf
Shepherd Wheel, recent full restoration, open Saturdays and Sundays and Bank Holidays 11-3, 10-4 from Easter Sunday. A unique example of a water-powered grinding Wheel, with an engineer and volunteers on site to explain the site and its workings.
Guest harestone
"Best" for me would be either Cicely Low or Strawberry Lea ringcairns.

I've been trying to think of any other similar sites within the city boundary but can't think of any so far.

I've been trying to think of any other similar sites within the city boundary but can't think of any so far. There aren't many, but up there with them is the rock art in Ecclesall woods, which i'd hazard is even older than the RC's. My piece on it here - http://pecsaetan.weebly.com/ecclesall-woods-1.html Edit: Almost forgot about this - http://pecsaetan.weebly.com/brown-edge.html

Guest harestone
Cicely low directions. http://pecsaetan.weebly.com/ciceley-low.html Strawberry Lea can be very difficult to find, almost impossible in summer, and it's not yet included on the website. Details can be found here on Chris's site. http://www.stone-circles.org.uk/stone/strawberrylea.htm

Again, a similar kind of experience to Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet and to Shepherd Wheel, another excellent site, which I see, has already been mentioned above. Also, if you have never done it, and you may have, a walk around the two city centre Cathedrals is always a good way to pass a few hours.

I've had a look at your instructions though and they seem a lot easier, so I'll have another go thanks. Wasn't another lot found fairly recently? Is that one under wraps or do you have a location? Yes there's a second piece, but it's off limits, and having visited it myself i can genuinely say you'd never find it without a 10 fig grid reference. Sorry i can't disclose the location but there's a little info on it here. http://pecsaetan.weebly.com/ecclesall-woods-2.html Example 1 should be easily found from my description, but if you do have trouble let me know and i'll accompany you. Guest harestone
No problem, better safe than nicked! They'd have more luck nicking the "public" one. ;) Example 2 is to all intents and purposes buried. !

duckweed
Without question a great place but nice to find the less known places in Sheffield. The Fire Museum is worth a visit but not till the warmer weather, it is colder inside than out. I like the Alfred Denny Museum. A small but quirky place to visit. lysander
A walk along the 5 Wiers Walk gives some interesting insights into Sheffield's industrial past as, indeed, does a stroll along the Canal ...from the magnificent straddle warehouse...until your legs get tired! One place to note along the canal is the plaque to the Luftwaffe who, on the night of the blitz, in bombing Bacon Lane, managed to breach the canal! Bayleaf
Would Igger Tor at at Fox House be classed as Sheffield? I think it's inside the boundary so why not?
Guest ianb
Hi Bayleaf, I haven't been there in over 50 years but I have been told that there is pavement all the way now. When my mates and myself went up there it was scrambling over streams and rocks to get up. I think I spelt it wrong at first; it should be Higger Tor, I can't remember the lower one which was about half mile away due North.
