Fiesta? Steelys? Roxy?

I have trawled through the posts trying to find this out as it is bothering me, I don't know why, but it is. I lived in your marvelous city from 79 to 83 and had some wonderful nights out at many great pubs, clubs and venues. What I am trying to find out is this, were Steelys, the Fiesta and the Roxy one and the same? obviously at different points on the timeline. The Top Rank has been mentioned but I seem to remember that place being opposite Pond Street bus station and a large grey building while Steelys (as I knew it) was a white, square building not too far away.

Other clubs I frequented were Romeo and Juliets, Limit, Josephines, Maximillians (makes you feel like a million!), KayGeeBee, Rebels.

Thanks

MH

Roxy which is now the O2 Academy has formaly been known as The Top Rank, Barrry Noble's Roxy (later called just Roxy's Discotechque) and a former place of worship! It was Steelys in the late 1970's for a while before Barry Noble took it over!

The Fiesta is now the Odeon Cinema although not for long as it's being re-developed.

Romeo & Juliet's also known as Cairo Jacks and a few other reincarnations under first Leisure - is now all offices!

The other clubs you mentioned were dotted around the city centre including a few of Peter Stringfellow's clubs!

I have a Facebook group for Romeo & Juliets Doncaster here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/group.php?gid=44705568411

Just cut and paste the link into your browser and providing you're a member of Facebook you can see how the Doncaster club looked like going back 50 years!

Also there are a few Facebook groups set up under First Leisure which do include a few of the club names you've mentioned so you could do a search and join those gropus. R&J's and Lexicon Ave in Hull are the biggest groups!

So thats my reply I'm sure others will post thier input if they come along your post.

Regards

Looking across Arundel Gate,

Roxy on the L/H side, Fiesta on the R/H side.

Looking from the Penny Black PH,

next to Pond Street bus station.

Images from Google street view.

Thanks Steve, so the second image, would that be the Top Rank, or am I still a bit confused? I do remember the Penny Black. I think I need to pay a visit to re-acquaint myself with the sites and sounds of this great city.

Hi Mark,

Top Rank on the right,

Fiesta on the left,

(former names)

It is becoming clearer now! Strange how 30 years can play tricks with ones memory! or is it?

What I think was confusing me was, in my mind I was thinking of the front of the buildings and

the back of the buildings as two completely different buildings in different but nearby locations

- if you know what I mean.

Thanks to both yourself and Guy for helping to clear this up for me. Any suggestions as to where

to go pub/club-wise in Sheff now for someone my age (47) when I pay that long-overdue visit

very soon?
